Painful Reminder of the past leave your feeling exhausted and hopeless.
Reminders of what happened keep you stuck and stagnant. And sometimes, they seem to come out of nowhere. One minute you’re fine. Living life. The next you get knocked off your feet by a reminder of the past.
You worry that you may never be who you used to be before the trauma occurred.
You feel like your history follows you everywhere you go.
It is difficult to look toward the future with hope.
Every day is a battle. You never know when a trauma trigger will occur. Plus, you don’t know how you will react to any situation you find yourself in.
It can be difficult to try to explain how you feel or what your experience was like.
The words simply. . . aren’t there. You don’t know how to talk about what happened. It feels like the floodgates will open and you’ll never be whole again. You’ve tried to talk through it with friends. Yet, there aren’t any words to describe the pain, shame, and fear you have experienced.
Part of you knows what you went through wasn’t ok. That part of you that’s still so jumpy and still feels so….broken. Sometimes, you want to scream. Or, you want to cry and curl up in a ball and disappear. But, you don’t. Most of the time, people have no idea how much you’re hurting.
As Lonely As Trauma Feels, A Trauma Therapist in Simi Valley, CA Understands
What you’re feeling is normal for someone who’s experienced trauma. And, most PTSD symptoms are actually an understandable response to having experienced something super overwhelming. As alone as you feel, you’re not the only person to react to a trauma (big or small) this way. But that doesn’t make it any easier.
Over time, those understandable responses start to hold you back. That’s when Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) starts to come into place. That’s when it might be time to seek out some help from a therapist who specializes in trauma. A therapist who actually “gets it.” One who won’t be shocked by your story. Instead, they will understand how many different areas of your life have been affected by what you went through.
If any of this is resonating with you, please know there’s hope. And help is available. You don’t have to carry the weight of your trauma alone.
The good news is some people understand what you’re going through and can help. A trauma therapist can provide the support and guidance to help you heal the wounds of your past. Together, you can learn valuable coping skills and move on with your life.
When you seek Trauma Therapy from Simi Psychological Group you will experience:
You’ll be in a safe space where you will be supported, heard, and understood.
The Trauma Therapy Process
Trauma therapy at Simi Psychological Group will be a collaborative experience. You and your therapist will work to ensure your needs are met. Our skilled and trained therapists are here to support you through this process. We use a combination of interpersonal process therapy, family systems, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. These techniques work to help you meet your goals. But, our therapists tailor each therapeutic process to your individual needs. They will work with you to help plan out the best route of treatment. They will ensure you are both on the same page throughout the process.
We will work with you to identify the sticky points being caused by the trauma you have experienced. Our therapists are skilled at trauma therapy. Together we will find ways for you to cope with your trauma.
We will meet together weekly for 50-minute sessions. Often, counseling continues for at least 12 sessions. But, this is dependent upon your individual goals and concerns. Trauma therapy uses validated techniques to help you learn your triggers and how to navigate them.
Here’s What to Expect
Week 1: Assessment & Rapport Building
During the first session, we will work together to fully understand what is going on in your world. Your therapist will get to know you by asking questions about your particular case. The two of you will begin to develop a plan for your time together to help you set and reach your goals.
Week 2 & Beyond: Trauma Therapy
You and your trauma therapist will work together to figure out how to manage your trauma symptoms and begin to move forward.
Trauma happens and looks different for everyone. The symptoms of trauma you experience may be different from what others look for, but they are valid. We often think of trauma symptoms as being flashbacks and nightmares, but there is so much more to it than that. Trauma can occur to anyone, and it doesn’t have to be war or sexual assault. Trauma looks different in many ways. So, we will work together to figure out what will work to help you cope with trauma.
Termination – 1-2 final sessions
In your final sessions, you and your therapist will work to establish goals moving forward and will do what is needed to set you up for success. You will work to create a plan for your next steps to help you navigate what may come up after you are done with therapy. This way, when triggers happen, you are prepared and ready to manage them successfully.

Could you benefit from Trauma therapy?
Trauma doesn’t have to determine who you are or what you do in life. Do you find yourself avoiding situations or feeling out of control. If so, your trauma might be leading the way instead of you. It doesn’t have to be this way!
You might not be ready for Trauma Therapy If…
You’re not ready to dive into the trauma and finally process it
What Does Trauma Therapy Cost?
We desire to ensure you maintain the most privacy and provide the highest level of care possible. All without the constraints of managed care. So, we are out-of-network providers. This means we do not accept direct reimbursement from insurance.
The good news is that your insurance may reimburse you for part of the fee. PPO insurance often reimburses around 50%. Sadly, HMP, Medi-Cal, and Medicare insurances do not reimburse you. They need you to see someone who is in their network. We strongly recommend you find out more about your eligibility for out-of-network benefits. We will provide you with all the necessary paperwork to submit for reimbursement.
