John Danial, Ph.D.

Psychologist in Simi Valley

Hi,

I’m Dr. John Danial

Licensed Psychologist PSY 29170

Clinical Director

I’m a licensed psychologist who encourages children, teens, and families to take the steps and make the changes they need to see real, lasting change in their lives. I specialize in working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Defiant behaviors, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and in helping children and adolescents build confidence and strength to live their lives to their true potential. I believe that each child is unique and has the inner strength to fight through their obstacles with the support of their loved ones. So they never have to experience feeling “less than” or being labeled as “different” or “difficult.” I provide a space to encourage the children and adolescents I work with to open up, be vulnerable, and develop the tools to live more fulfilled lives. One of the ways I do this is through creating a strong, supportive, and safe relationship that validates and empowers young people. I am also not above cracking jokes or playing on the floor in order to create a light, calm, and comfortable environment geared toward healing.

IN THERAPY

I am dedicated to going through the changing process with you and your family, working together toward the goals and aspirations you have for yourself, your child, or your family. I encourage all clients to challenge their negative thoughts and recognize harmful patterns and start by helping them develop meaningful goals and areas in their life they would like to see change.

I use a cognitive behavioral approach to address unproductive thought, behavior and emotional patterns. I also work from a family systems orientation to incorporate the importance of helping the entire family.

I incorporate Christian-focused therapy when applicable, where we strive to connect more deeply to God through our earthly struggles. It can be powerful to reframe our current difficulties into an opportunity to rely on God’s power as a source in finding our own strength to live a meaningful life.

Through the use of neuropsychological assessments, I am able to help you identify the issues that bring about the challenges in your child’s life.

I ultimately believe in allowing the individual to guide the trajectory of therapy and judge the progress based on the client’s ability to recognize their growth.

Education and Background

I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a doctoral degree from UCLA’s Human Development in Psychology program. During my graduate program, I received the Dennis Weatherstone Fellowship from Autism Speaks to complete a research project aimed at treating the anxiety of children with autism who also had language difficulties.

I have published several papers related to implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with individuals with autism and my post-doctoral training included working at an Intensive Outpatient Program at a pediatric clinic, where I provided treatment to children with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other emotional/behavioral concerns and their families.
