The Neuropsychological Testing Process

Neuropsychological Assessments are a combination of different tests and evaluations that can help determine the underlying issues that have kept your child from advancing. These tests will equip us with the necessary information to map out a unique course that fits your unique situation and will best address underlying concerns interfering with your child’s growth.
Perhaps, you notice difficulties in social interactions, the presence of repetitive behaviors, or the fact that your child struggles to verbally communicate. Each of these, along with other behaviors, could be signs of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. To assess for this particular diagnosis, we will run a formalized battery of tests that will give your family a clear indication of what your child is dealing with.

Or maybe you see your child struggling in school and friendships and having trouble focusing on schoolwork because they always seem to be disorganized or forgetful. They are often impulsive and seem to make decisions without putting very much thought or effort into them. You may also see that your child is very “busy,” never calms down, and seems to be all over the place. When you bring them to Simi Psychological Group for psychological assessment, we will use specific examinations intended to test for ADHD.

You know your child is smart. In fact, sometimes they blow you away with how much knowledge they have and how bright they are. But you also notice they don’t seem to take in information the same way other kids do. And when you set out to teach them something specific, you find that they have a hard time learning whatever it is you show them. At Simi Psychological, we will run a formalized psychological assessment to help determine if and what learning disorders might be affecting your child.

During the assessment process, we will complete a comprehensive battery of tests across the domains of your or your child’s life. The entire process generally takes between 12 to 15 hours (4-5 meetings)  to thoroughly complete.

A Psychological Assessment includes:

^
A one-hour initial interview
^
A full battery of cognitive, academic, executive functioning, attention, and social testing
^
Interviews and diagnostic measures for parents, teachers, and other caregivers
^
A comprehensive written report with applicable diagnoses
^
Personalized treatment recommendations and follow-up strategies
^
A one-hour feedback session to discuss results
^
The potential for a one-hour school meeting to discuss the implementation of recommendations with your child’s teachers
Our goal is to provide a thorough report on your child’s challenges, and an insightful evaluation as to the causes, and treatment options in order to offer you the peace of mind to help your child in their journey to success in school, work, and life.

Who Benefits Most from Child Psychological Tests

Our pediatric assessments include ADHD tests, gifted testing, dyslexia testing and more.

Neuropsychological testing is best for those who want to understand why navigating the responsibilities of life can be such a struggle.

Learning disorders, ADHD, and Autism can be difficult to face alone, and testing helps to guide the treatment plans for those who want answers as to how to move forward most effectively.

Your child will benefit from A Neuropsychological Assessment if:
^

You suspect Autism Spectrum, ADHD, or another learning disorder is affecting your child

^
You want to finally have answers as to your child’s learning and behavioral difficulties
^
Your child’s school or teacher is concerned about their ability to function with schoolwork and/or peers
^
You want to get the knowledge required to receive the treatments best suited for your child
^
You desire guidance in how to best meet your child’s needs

There are certain situations where you or your child might not be ready for a neuropsychological assessment.

These situations include, but are not limited to:
^
When parents don’t really want to understand what is fully happening
^

Clients who cannot commit to 12-15 hours (4-5 meetings).

^
Those needing to use insurance for direct reimbursement
In these cases, we can provide you with appropriate referrals for your level of care.

What Does A Neuropsychological Assessment Cost?

Neuropsychological Assessment is a fee for service program, and we accept all major forms of payment. Please reach out to us for specifics in regards to pricing.

Due to our desire to make sure you maintain maximum privacy and wanting to provide you with the highest level of care possible without constraints from managed care, we are out-of-network providers. This means we do not accept reimbursement directly from insurance.

However, the good news is that your health insurance may reimburse you for a portion of the fee. PPO insurances typically reimburse around 50%. Unfortunately, HMO, Medi-Cal, and Medicare insurances do not reimburse as they require that you see someone on their panel. We encourage you to find out more regarding your eligibility for out-of-network benefits. We will provide you with the necessary paperwork to submit to your plan for reimbursement.

Identifying what is really going on may feel really intimidating right now, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find the strength to gather the information. You just need a proper course of psychological tests and the support to navigate the answers they reveal.
