Help You Find Healing and Support During Times of Loss
Life, at times, can pose challenges that leave us feeling lost, uncertain, and overwhelmed. You’ve lost a loved one or are anticipating the loss of someone precious to you. Maybe your marriage has ended, or something you believed would last forever is now coming to an end. It feels as if your world has been turned upside down, and you don’t know what to do or where to turn for help.
You’re struggling with finding ways to cope with the sadness, pain, and uncertainty that comes with loss. It feels as if no one understands what you’re going through, and it’s hard to talk to those closest to you because they are also hurting. You may even feel guilty for taking care of yourself or reaching out for help when others around you are grieving too.
It’s difficult to imagine your life moving forward without the person or thing you’ve lost. You once had a sense of control and stability, but now it feels as if you’re floating in uncertainty. You’re overwhelmed with emotion but know that you need to find healing and support.
It’s Normal to Feel This Way
And it’s okay not to have all the answers. Everyone may be asking you how you’re doing, but you’re not sure how to answer that question. You feel if you tell the truth, you’ll be seen as too emotional or unstable. You’re not sure how to grieve “properly,” and it feels like everyone expects you to bounce back quickly. So, you put on a brave face and try to keep it together. But inside, you’re crying out for help.
You Just Need Someone Who Understands The Loss You’re Experiencing
You’re tired of feeling alone and misunderstood. Everyone wants to sympathize, but what you need is someone who truly understands the grief and pain you’re going through. You don’t want to seem ungrateful for the support you’ve received, but hearing “everything happens for a reason” just doesn’t cut it. It doesn’t explain why you’re feeling so much pain and heartache. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one or pet, the end of a relationship or job, or even the loss of your youth, your grief is valid and deserves to be understood.
You know these feelings are natural and part of the healing process, but that doesn’t make them any easier to manage. No one seems to understand how much this loss has impacted you and how difficult it is to move forward. Most of the time you just feel like you’re going through the motions, trying to keep up with daily life while carrying this heavy weight of grief. No one seems get it, and you’re tired of pretending to be okay.

These techniques work together to help you explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors surrounding your loss. By gaining insight into how grief is affecting you, we can work towards developing healthy coping mechanisms and finding meaning in your loss. Your counselor tailor each therapeutic process to your individual needs. They will work with you to ensure your treatment plan is the right fit for you and your unique experience, while also making sure you both are on the same page.
We will meet together weekly for 50-minute sessions. Often, counseling continues for at least 12 sessions. But, this is dependent upon your individual goals and concerns. Grief counseling uses validated techniques to help you learn how to cope, process your emotions and memories, find meaning in your loss, and move forward without feeling guilty or like you’re betraying the memory of your loved one.
HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT:
WEEK ONE: INTAKE & ESTABLISHING A CONNECTION
In our first meeting, we’ll work together to fully understand how you’ve been feeling since your loss. Your therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and help you make a plan for our sessions. This plan will help us support you in reaching your goals and going through the grieving process.
WEEK TWO AND BEYOND: GRIEF COUNSELING
Each session is designed to help you delve deep into the underlying causes of your grief. You and your therapist will work together to identify thought patterns that might amplify your feelings of grief. In sessions, you will also spend time exploring your emotions and memories centered around your loss.
With the support of your grief therapist, you will gain guidance on how to cope with these intense feelings and they help you find healthy ways to express them.
Grief and loss is a natural and inevitable part of life, but it doesn’t have to define your life. But when you struggle to process these emotions on your own, it can build up and weigh you down. It can interrupt your daily routine, relationships, and even your mental health. Your therapist will assist you in developing new, healthier ways to cope with these feelings so that they do not become overwhelming.
TERMINATION: 1-2 FINAL SESSIONS
In your final sessions, you and your therapist will review your goals to ensure you are satisfied with your counseling experience and that the work you have done together has met your expectations. Together, you will also outline a plan going forward so that you are able to retain what you have worked on together and implement all you have learned outside of session.
In your final sessions, you and your therapist will reflect on your journey through grief and the goals you have made and achieved. This reflection will also serve to ensure your satisfaction with the counseling experience and the progress you’ve made together. Together, you will also develop a plan to help you retain what you have learned and implement coping strategies outside of the sessions, enabling you to navigate the grieving process more effectively.
