KAP Legal & Safety Notices
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) involves both psychotherapy and medical care.
To help you feel informed and supported, we’ve outlined how this process works, including safety considerations, roles, and responsibilities.
Psychotherapy vs Medical Care
Simi Psychological Group provides psychotherapy services as part of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
We do not prescribe, administer, or provide medical care.
All medical components of treatment are provided by Journey Clinical and its affiliated medical providers, including:
- Medical evaluations and eligibility
- Prescriptions for ketamine
- Dosing guidance
- Medical oversight and monitoring
Your therapist and your medical provider are separate and independent professionals, each responsible for different aspects of your care.
Off-Label Use of Ketamine
Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic but is used off-label in mental health treatment.
This means it is being used in a way that is supported by research and clinical practice, but not specifically approved by the FDA for this purpose.
You will review the risks, benefits, and alternatives directly with your medical provider before beginning treatment.
Informed Consent
Participation in KAP requires informed consent.
Before beginning treatment, you will:
- Complete medical evaluation and clearance through Journey Clinical
- Review and sign medical consent forms with your prescriber
- Review and sign psychotherapy consent forms with Simi Psychological Group
These documents outline the structure of care, risks, and responsibilities in detail.
Safety & Emergency Response
Your safety is a priority throughout the process.
During KAP sessions:
- Therapists provide emotional and psychological support
- Therapists do not provide medical treatment or interventions
If a medical emergency occurs:
- Emergency services (911) will be contacted immediately
- Journey Clinical may also be contacted for support
KAP is not appropriate for individuals in active crisis or emergency situations.
If you are in crisis, call 988 or 911.
Transportation & Aftercare
Because ketamine can temporarily affect perception, coordination, and awareness:
- You must arrange safe transportation after your session
- You should not drive or operate machinery after treatment (follow the guidance provided in your consent forms)
Your therapist will help guide the transition out of session and support integration afterward.
Results & Expectations
KAP can be a meaningful and powerful process, but it is not the right fit for everyone.
Outcomes vary based on many factors, including:
- Medical suitability
- Emotional readiness
- Ongoing therapeutic work
We do not guarantee specific results.
Responsibility & Participation
By choosing to participate in KAP, you agree to:
- Follow medical guidance from your prescribing provider
- Follow safety recommendations provided by your therapist
- Communicate openly about your experience and any concerns
KAP works best when approached collaboratively, with care, honesty, and support.
