Kaera Spencer-Peterson, AMFT

Therapist in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks

Hi,

I’m Kaera Spencer-Peterson

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT #161447.

Life can feel overwhelming, confusing, and even suffocating at times, leaving you unsure of how to navigate it all or find relief. Maybe you’ve been trying to figure things out on your own, but nothing feels like it’s really sticking. You know something needs to shift, but you’re not sure where to begin. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, or just feeling stuck, it can be exhausting to carry that on your own.

I believe therapy is a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out. My goal is to create an environment where you feel safe, supported, and seen. Free from judgment and free to be yourself. I lead with care, intentionality, and curiosity because building a genuine connection is the most important tool for growth. Our relationship is the foundation of the work we do together. By slowing things down, we can make sense of your experiences and begin to move through the parts of life that feel confusing or overwhelming.

IN THERAPY

In our time together, we’ll look at the patterns in your life. Not to criticize them, but to understand with compassion how they helped you survive until now. While we work to find relief in the present, we will also stay curious enough to go deeper, uncovering the roots of what keeps you feeling stuck. I believe that you are the expert of your own life; my role is to meet you exactly where you are, leading with empathy and even a bit of humor when the moment calls for it.

We’ll work as a team to make sense of tangled thoughts and heavy emotions, finding the courage to gently challenge the inner narratives that no longer serve you. This process is a collaboration where your voice is the most important one in the room. My hope is to provide a steady, warm presence as we uncover your inner strengths, helping you get closer to a sense of peace and a life that feels truly, authentically yours.

Education and Background

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Toronto and my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health, with a strong emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Palo Alto University. Currently, I am completing my clinical training as a pre-licensed therapist while working toward full licensure.

My background includes school-based services where I supported children, adolescents, and families. I have worked closely with elementary-aged children to develop social skills, improve emotional regulation, and navigate anxiety, stress, and relationship challenges with parents. Through this work, I’ve developed a strong foundation in building trust, understanding developmental needs, and creating supportive environments where clients feel seen and valued. I incorporate a variety of therapeutic techniques including play therapy, CBT, and creative arts therapy, all through a psychodynamic lens. I am committed to deepening my clinical skills in additional modalities while providing thoughtful, holistic care.
