Amy Mikayelian, AMFT

Therapist in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Porter Ranch

Hi, I’m Amy Mikayelian

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist AMFT#160791

Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve spent a long time being the strong one even when things feel heavy inside. You may be carrying stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, or questions about yourself or your relationships. You don’t have to keep holding all of this alone. In our work together, I offer a space that is calm, warm, and grounded. A space where you can slow down, take a breath, and begin to feel more connected to yourself. Therapy with me is not rushed or forced. I believe healing happens when you feel safe enough to be honest, and my priority is creating an environment where you feel seen, respected, and supported exactly where you are.

My Therapy Specialties Include:

In Therapy

Sessions are collaborative and guided by your needs. Some days, we may focus on practical tools to manage anxiety, regulate emotions, or cope with daily stressors. Other times, we may gently explore deeper patterns—how past experiences, relationships, or expectations have shaped the way you move through the world today. There is room for both structure and reflection, for learning and for simply being.

I place strong value on the therapeutic relationship itself. Feeling truly understood can be profoundly healing, and I approach each client with curiosity, compassion, and care. You don’t need to have everything figured out, know exactly what to say, or arrive with a clear plan. Therapy is a space where insight unfolds over time, at a pace that feels right for you.

My path to this work is rooted in a deep respect for relationships and the ways our early experiences shape us. My clinical training in school and community settings has allowed me to support children, teens, adults, and families through anxiety, life transitions, emotional challenges, and relational stress. These experiences have strengthened my belief that healing happens in connection and that therapy should feel steady, collaborative, and deeply human.

When working with children and adolescents, I create developmentally appropriate spaces that feel safe and natural, often incorporating creative and play-based approaches. I also work closely with families to strengthen communication and understanding, because meaningful change often extends beyond the individual.

My role is not to “fix” you, but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your strengths, gain clarity, and begin to feel more grounded and empowered in your life. Whether you are seeking support during a difficult season or simply wanting to better understand yourself, therapy can be a place where meaningful change begins.

You deserve support that feels human, compassionate, and attuned. If you’re ready to take the next step, I would be honored to be part of your journey.

Education and Background

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge, and my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from California Southern University, where I received comprehensive training in relational systems, attachment, and evidence-based interventions.

I have provided school-based group therapy services within Glendale Unified School District, working closely with elementary-aged children to strengthen emotional regulation, improve social skills, and promote positive behavior change. In these groups, I implemented structured, developmentally appropriate interventions focused on coping skills, problem-solving, communication, and building self-confidence.

Through my work with the Armenian Relief Society, a nonprofit organization serving low-income families, I provided therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults navigating financial stress, trauma, adjustment challenges, and relational difficulties. This experience deepened my understanding of culturally responsive, community-centered care and reinforced my commitment to providing compassionate, accessible support to diverse populations.
